As I have said the house for our homestead will be a straw bale. In the country you will find it somewhat easier to do what you would like to do on your homestead. Check with the planning and zoning dept of the county you in and ask what is alowwed to build with so you can make your homestead the way you want. You will need a well for water, you can drill you own with some work and getting a portable well drilling machine. This will be a great tool for your homestead. It takes some research and trial and error. A typical well will cost about 8000.00 we looked around and found a used machine for 1500.00 and it had a 100 ft of drill stem with it. It add drill stem for this machine I went to Lowes and got 1 inch steel pipe for extending my drilling depth. Just take a piece with you and see if they have pipe with same threads . They will cut and thread it for a little extra, it is worth it. so the well will end up costing about 5000.00 with well pump and the pressure tank and everything. The advantage to this is that if you need another well on your homestead, you will be able to drill it and have a lower cost. In the long run you will be able to save money and you can do it a little at a time. We soon found out after a few tries that the machine we got for the well was to small and it would not work. So we are hauling water as if now. A grid tie on your land will make it easier to build and it will help with things when you go to solar because it is expensive for solar to run a lot of 220 volts tools and appliances. Most electric companies will do aerial power lines from no cost to you to install on your homestead but you will need a 40 ft clearing for this to go in that way. We did ours underground on our homestead and it was about 1500.00 but they went down the road we had cut in and kept our privacy for the homestead. It was 500.00 for the electrician to set in the boxes and 25.00 for the permit. Next was the septic tank it was 125.00 for the permit and inspection and the installer charged 1800.00 for tank and field lines and all was supplied by installer. The phone company installed all the phone and internet lines on property for nothing, that is the ideal install. Our phone company charges 50.00 to put a line and jack in the house but they are easy to install yourself. Check things out in the county that your homestead is in and do some homework and go to planning and zoning office your looking at for your homestead the and ask questions.
